Richard Short

Prior to getting a place on the course I worked at Rampton Hospital for five years. I worked for two years as a nursing assistant and the remainder as an Assistant Psychologist, all within the LD directorate. I had applied once to the DClinPsy before getting my place on the Trent course. My research project will explore internet forums for individuals with anxiety and depression and how the advice given by users converges with ‘best evidence’. I have found that my ethos of the course very conducive to learning and been motivated to explore certain areas more. Although exhausting there are times when the course is not so demanding and allows time to reflect.

Sophie Wicks

Hiya, I’m Sophie, I’m 27 years old and I am a Lincolnshire trainee.

I studied at Loughborough University and during my placement year I worked as a Research Assistant and Bank Healthcare Assistant at an inpatient eating disorders hospital in Edinburgh (at the time I wasn’t scared at all about upping and moving to Scotland where I didn’t know anybody…still can’t work out why!) After university, I worked as a Support Worker in a residential unit housing adolescents who had been sexually exploited or were transitioning from secure inpatient units to living back home. Working here was certainly an eye-opening experience and felt somewhat like a baptism of fire for my first proper job in mental health – it certainly built up my resilience. I then had a lovely job as a personal support worker for a young lady with Downs Syndrome.

Building on my interest from my placement year, I applied for a job as a Community Support Worker within LPFT’s Eating Disorder Service, and moved to Lincoln from Derby (hometown) 3.5 years ago. I then gained the position of co-ordinating the day programme which ran three days per week. Just over a year ago I started my current role as Assistant Psychologist within the Adult Clinical Psychology & Psychotherapy Service at Lincoln Archway, and have really enjoyed the challenge of co-facilitating groups and working with patients individually who have (usually) experienced severe abuse and/or trauma.

A little about me…I have a ridiculous sweet tooth and therefore attempt to go to the gym/Zumba to compensate for this. I love going to the cinema (especially Marvel films) and my main hobby is socialising with friends.
